Prof. Dr. M. K. Sastry, who is a Phd. holder from the University of Berlin has proposed the formation of the first National Law University, which is scheduled to be established 10 Kms away from Guwahati in the State of Assam and begin in the month of August, 2010.
It is also proposed to establish in the University, the International Centre for Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation.
As Dr. Sastry picturesquely puts it, “the legal education is in pathetic condition in the North-east and hence I appeal to the legal fraternity to support the lofty idea of establishing the First National Law University of North-east...”
His noble cause for the Indian legal education, particularly for the north-eastern states, deserves appreciation from law students like us, who cherish the pride of being not only from the best law schools of the country, but also as being the most capable among sorts in spreading legal awareness through active participation and support.
